Ever since I was a child, having been born in a farmhouse in the countryside, I was fascinated by this component mounted at the end of tractor exhausts (which I later learned is called “rain cap”) that would open every time the accelerator pedal was pressed, followed by the roaring sound of the engine, and then close right after.
This object was also born out of the need to try his hand at self-production, having several metalworking machines and a painting oven at my dad’s company. It is a sort of readymade where the function of the rain cap is somewhat inverted, in fact its real function would be to preserve the efficient combustion of the engine, in this case instead the component is the one that extinguishes the flame, which ends the combustion of the candle.
The candle holder consists of a 3 mm iron tube with a standard diameter of 101.6 mm cut to length and welded to a 4 mm sheet metal chamfered at the corners, once painted, the exhaust rain cap of the corresponding diameter is attached and finally the candle is inserted.
